English الأنجليزية

The principle of cutting your carbohydrate intake for rapid and effective weight loss has gained widespread recognition, but until now there has been the concern that it may be detrimental to your heart health because of the roportionately higher fat onsumption it encourages.

However, a study conducted at Tulane University USA found that subjects on a low-carb diet lost more weight and more body fat than those on a low-fat diet, and did not see any increase in cholesterol levels.

They also had lower levels of fat circulating in their blood, and had lower scores on a measure used to predict the risk of heart attack or stroke. Researchers said the subjects had been encouraged to eat healthier sources of fat such as nuts and beans, more fibre and less processed foods, all of which are known to have a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels.
